Charming late 1800s French Morbier Comtoise white enamel clock face with black Roman numerals and days of the month, in a brass repoussé frame. Long ago part of a grandfather clock. Repoussé is a metalworking technique in which a malleable metal is ornamented or shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in relief. This brass framing features a farmer using two horses to plow a field while one farmer looks on.
In very good overall antique condition considering age and use (originally part of a tall wood encased grandfather clock). We have added a new clock battery mechanism on the backside and black metal dials to the face so that the piece is now functional as a wall clock! Lovely on a wall alone or in a grouping. Measures 16 inches by 11 inches overall; enamel clock face measures 8.5 inches in diameter.
